Dana and Cindy Bratton Missionaries with YWAM Thailand

Dana went to Thailand in January 2005 to assist with disaster relief as a pastor following the tsunami. He ministered in the city of Krabi and on Phi Phi Island. He also taught English in a school near Nua Klong at Laem Kruat.  He tried to purchase a Bible for his host family in Thai or English.  He went to five different stores, new and used, and found no Bibles at all.  This really tugged on his heart, "how will they hear without the Word?"  There was a Baptist church in Krabi and he was able to obtain several New Testaments there. Dana lived with a public school principal for nearly two weeks.  Dana had his permission to share his testimony and teach Bible stories in each English class.  Two Muslim teenage girls accepted Christ.  When he returned home from this short term trip, he told Cindy we really need to prayerfully consider going to Thailand full time.  They lack Bibles, they lack preachers, and yet the field is wide open through the teaching of English.   95% of the population is Buddhist, 4% and increasing are Muslim, and less than 1% are Christian.  Cindy and Dana, and a team of three others, went to Bangkok and to Krabi in July and August 2005. We believe the Lord has given us clear direction to serve Him long term as missionaries in Thailand.   We  serve with YWAM Thailand, Youth With A Mission.   Dana is now pastor and teacher of this church plant in the village of Thachatchai, a ministry of Calvary Chapel Ban Nam Khem and registered with the Thailand Baptist Convention, our church is called Calvary Chapel at the Bridge.  Cindy teaches English at the Thachatchai school every afternoon and teaches adults in the Community Center on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Teaching English is an excellent way to reach the Thai people for Christ. We moved to Thailand in August 2006 and to Phuket in February 2008.  The Thai government allows freedom of religion.    

We are waiting on the Lord now for Him to build His church in Thachatchai.  We currently have about 20 regular attenders.  Khun Gon is helping us temporarily with translation and Khun Id is helping us temporarily with worship, they are both from another church.  We are looking for full time permanent staff.

 We believe this is a time of an open door for the Gospel following the tsunami and earthquakes in the region.  Dana and Cindy feel a special burden for people in the South who were  affected by the tsunami.  Our desire is to see all of people of Thachatchai, Khok Kloy, Bo Don and surrounding areas have the opportunity to hear the Good News of the Gospel, to have a Bible if they want one, and to be disciples of the Lord Jesus, knowing Him and making Him known.
